Gum Disease Treatment
Laser and endoscope-guided periodontal therapy that stops gum disease with fewer incisions and stitches, faster and more comfortable healing.
Gum disease is the leading cause of adult tooth loss and often develops without pain. Bleeding gums, persistent bad breath, and loose teeth are common signs, and the same bacteria are linked to diabetes and heart disease.
This is where our technology changes the experience. A 1 mm periodontal endoscope lets us look inside the pocket at up to 100x magnification — so we treat what we can actually see, without laying open the gums to find it. Two laser wavelengths then let us decontaminate and reshape tissue with minimal bleeding and, in many cases, no sutures at all.
Care still starts with the least invasive option that will work: scaling and root planing — a deep cleaning that removes plaque and tartar from below the gum line and smooths the root surfaces so the gums can reattach — then laser-assisted and endoscopic treatment, and regenerative surgery only when the bone loss genuinely calls for it.
Laser Periodontal Therapy at Transcend
Laser periodontal therapy treats gum disease without the scalpel-and-suture surgery most people picture. Laser energy removes diseased tissue and bacteria inside the pocket while leaving healthy tissue intact, so treatment is typically done with fewer incisions and stitches, less bleeding, and a faster, more comfortable recovery.
We use a dual-wavelength laser rather than forcing one instrument to do every job. One wavelength is suited to soft tissue and decontaminating the pocket; the other works on harder tissue and around the bone. Choosing the right wavelength for each step means we can be more precise and more conservative in the same appointment.
We also treat with the PerioView periodontal endoscope — a 1 mm micro-camera that shows the inside of the pocket at up to 100x magnification on a chairside screen. Transcend was the first practice in Oklahoma to have one. It lets us find and remove what an x-ray never shows, and verify the result under direct vision instead of by feel.
Scaling and root planing
The deep cleaning that treats periodontitis without surgery — plaque and tartar are removed from below the gum line and the root surfaces are smoothed so the gums can reattach.
