Dr Tran- A legacy of Faith and Perseverance

Someone You Should Know: Dr. Trung Tran

When you walk into Tulsa Dental Implants & Periodontics, you might notice something a little different. The atmosphere feels peaceful — even joyful. There’s soft Christian music playing in the background, and as you sign in, you’ll find a space on the patient form inviting you to share your prayer requests.

That small detail says a lot about the heart behind the practice.

And once you meet Dr. Trung Tran, it all makes sense.

From Vietnam to Tulsa: A Story of Faith and Perseverance

Dr. Tran’s story begins long before he ever put on a white coat. His parents escaped the devastation of the Vietnam War in 1975, leaving everything behind to seek a better life.

“My father had some connections in the Vatican that helped him escape to Thailand before moving to Oklahoma,” Dr. Tran shared. “My mother was sponsored by a family in Kansas and came to America with almost nothing. Later, she joined a community of Vietnamese immigrants in Tulsa, where she met my father at church.”

Their courage and resilience deeply shaped Trung and his two sisters. “Knowing what they went through to move to America, I always felt that wasting my life on anything less than my best would be an insult to them,” he said.

Building a Foundation of Excellence

Raised in Tulsa, Trung attended Union High School, where his drive to succeed came from within. “My parents never had to push me to study — I did it out of respect for them and the sacrifices they made,” he recalled.

That self-discipline carried him through three years of undergraduate studies and four years of dental school at the University of Oklahoma, followed by three more years specializing in periodontics. His dedication paid off when he achieved his credentials as a Board-Certified Periodontist — one of the highest distinctions in his field.

His family shares that same spirit of excellence. One sister is a dentist practicing in Singapore, and the other is a medical resident in pediatric medicine.

Faith, Family, and Calling

Trung met his wife, Thao, in high school, and the two have been inseparable ever since. Married for  years, they now have four children — two boys and two girls.

Though Trung grew up Catholic, it wasn’t until later in life that his faith became deeply personal. “I used to go to church because it was what I was supposed to do,” he said. “But during dental school, I went on mission trips with a group of Protestants and began studying the Bible. I saw something different in their lives.”

That difference changed everything. After returning home, he began attending a house church for second-generation Asian Americans, where he committed his life to Christ. Today, he and his family attend Life.Church, where Trung serves in leadership.

A Practice Built on Servant Leadership

Dr. Tran founded Tulsa Dental Implants & Periodontics in 2012 with three guiding principles:

  1. Be Servant Leaders. “We exist for our patients,” he said.
  2. Contribute to the Community. Through donations, service, and outreach.
  3. Live with Integrity. Holding themselves accountable in everything they do.

Each morning, Dr. Tran and his team begin their day with prayer — for each other and for their patients. “My leadership model stems from my Christian beliefs,” he said. “Faith is such a big part of who I am that it naturally influences how I run my practice and care for others.”

A Legacy of Care

Dr. Tran dreams of continuing to grow his organization so he can help even more people — not just by improving oral health, but by building relationships and strengthening his community. “I want to do things with intention that will leave a lasting, generational impact,” he said. “My goal is to serve, to contribute, and to glorify God in everything we do.”

And that’s exactly what makes him — and his practice — someone you should know.
